Stokke's posts on social media tend to be insulting, and attribute the sexualization of the process to women. Others women made a connection with Brandi's sports bra celebration when she was awarded the FIFA Women's World Cup in 1999. They said that discussions on appearance overshadowed sporting moments specifically for female athletes. Photos of Stokke competing on the track in New York in early 2007 were taken by a journalist for an Californian track and field web site and placed online.
